MINE PLANNING
NLC has Expertise and Technical Skill to plan for new Mines.
NLC on its own has prepared feasibility report for Mine-1A (To
produce 3 MT/A of lignite). Detailed Mine plan, detailed project
reports are also being prepared by NLC. Equipment selection
for Mines is being done by NLC. NLC has expertise to select
suitable equipment suppliers for major mining equipment. NLC
has expertise in preparation of tender document incorporating
technical and commercial condition, issuing of notice inviting
tender, evaluating the prices and awarding of contracts.
NLC do have expertise and experience for operating and maintaing
lignite production. The present production capacity from existing
three mine is 24 M.T/A (Mine-1: 10.5 M.T/A and Mine II: 10.5 M.T./A & Mine-1A: 3 M.T/A)

Future Projects
· Mine-II expansion for 4.5 MT/A from 10.5 MT/A to
15 MT/A linked with TPS-II expansion of 2x 250 MW.
· Mine-III of 8 M.T/A linked with TPS-III of 1000 MW
are under consideration. Feasibility reports are under preparation

Life Extension and The Rejuvenation of Bucket Wheel
Excavators:
Neyveli Lignite Corporation also has Excellent technical Skills
in consultancy services for rejuvenating the specialised Mining
equipments like Bucket Wheel Excavators, Spreaders etc., The equipments
which have served about 20 - 25 years have been rejuvenated to
have a new lease life of about 15 years at 30% of the new equipment
cost.
Details of Works & Modifications carried out during Rejuvenation
of Bucket Wheel Excavators.
- The old Tower structure was modified into the plate welded
construction.
- The rivetted construction Bucket Wheel boom was modified
to a new boom with a combination bolt and welded design.
- The loading boom was modified.
- The counter weight was made as a fixed one in place of
slewing.
- The Provision of cutting bows was eliminated and only Buckets
provided in the Bucket Wheel. The conventional Bucket Wheel
Drive was changed and planatery drive gear box provided.
- The existing Bucket Wheel hollow shaft was suitably changed
to accommodate the similar Bucket Wheel planatery gear box
available in the existing 700 BWEs (1571 - 74).
- Improvement carried out in the mounting area of the discharge
boom slew gear box and in other areas.
